Good morning
The City of Wolverhampton Council and West Midlands Police thank the community for their feedback on the Bentley Bridge Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) consultation, which closed on 26 February 2026. Your input is now being used to finalize new enforcement powers designed to address the persistent issues with nuisance youth groups at the retail park.
Update on Police Action & The New PSPO Continued Patrols: The Wednesfield Neighbourhood Team is maintaining a high-visibility presence, particularly on weekends, to reassure shoppers and disrupt large groups causing distress to local businesses and customers. Focus on Youth ASB: …..The highest reports of ASB incidents in early 2025 at the site involved young people, with reported issues ranging from reckless behaviour in car parks to intimidation of visitors. Awaiting Implementation: The consultation results are currently under review by the council’s Executive Team. If approved as expected, the PSPO is intended to become enforceable by summer 2026.
Upcoming Enforcement Powers Once the order is officially in force, officers will have specific legal tools to manage the site: Group Dispersal: Power to disperse groups of three or more people if they are suspected of causing, or are likely to cause, nuisance or disorder. Face Covering Removal: Authority to request the removal of face coverings used to conceal identity, except for valid medical or religious reasons. Exclusion Zones: Individuals can be barred from the retail park for up to 24 hours following an incident. Tiered Penalties: Enforcement will follow a "stepped" approach, starting with warnings and education for a first breach, followed by Fixed Penalty Notices (£100) or referrals to the Youth Offending Team for repeat offenders | ||
